April 16, 2006 Now that i am getting sucked into Perl more (not that it is a bad thing), I want to take a crack at doing web stuff with it. While cruising around the net i found an interesting MVC framework for Perl called Catalyst. I went ahead and grabbed it from cpan and will attempt to learn it. I have an idea for a web based application i been wanting to do for awhile. I figured what better way to implement it and learn something new in the process.
Hopefully (if i remember to) I am going to document my experiences and little things i discover about it.
The installation was pretty painless, i went and grabbed the tarball from cpan and built it using perl and nmake. There is a Bundle-Catalyst ppm package in Activestate’s repository but it looks like its pretty old and doesnt install all goodies the tarball does. The next step now is to start reading the docs and playing around with it.

April 14, 2006 So I found out from Adam that Google now has a new calendar service. Being one who likes to play with new stuff i decided to give it a try. So far I really like what i am seeing, and going to be playing with it some more.
One neat thing i saw is that you can export your calendar to iCal so you can import it into 3rd party apps, or you can subscribe to it via XML. Plus you can send yourself notifications via email or SMS (no support for Verizon).

April 12, 2006 I been looking at CSS drive lately and really wish i can achieve that level of design on websites. Just some of the stuff looks really awesome. I should dig down into the style sheets and see how they do somethings. I keep mentioning that i want to create a custom template for this site, i just never feel inspired enough.

April 9, 2006 Been awhile since i blog last. I been pretty busy between real life and work lately, just never had a chance to write anything about it.
Where to start…
Lately i been doing alot of perl scripting at work. I find a couple of tasks that i can figure out how to automate using perl. So far i got two scripts done and working, however i want to extend the one script to add some more functionality to it. One thing i like about Perl is that fact that it is the debian of programing langauges. The reason why is Debian has 20 million packages of software out there. Perl on the otherhand has 20 million modules out there. Everytime i look up on how to do something in Perl, they have a perl module that does what i need. Simply amazing.
Job front is doing ok i guess, I’m on the hunt again for a new one. It’s not that i dont like what i am doing, it is just that with the way things are going on i dont know what my employment status is going to be at the end of the year.
Amanda and i went looking at wedding bands the other night. Found two that we both really loved. The band she picked out looks smilar to the band for her engagement ring, it’s like a perfect match. I found a band that i liked as well. Just need to pick them up at some point this week.
I had to call IBM for my laptop yesterday, the damn power cord took a crap again. This is the second time i have to replace it. Again I had no issues with IBM support when i called in. I got routed to a call center in Atlanta, told the guy once (key word here folks) and he is getting a part sent out to me. Only problem is that they didnt have it in stock and have to get it from Japan, so it will take a couple extra days. The guy also mention that if the power brick/cord dies again I should send it in to have the motherboard looked at. This is how support should be ( i am looking at you Dell), not sending me out 4~5 cords before realizing “o hey the mobo might be having an issue”.
Speaking of laptops, I saw Apple has an app out called Boot Camp that will allow you to install XP on a macbook pro. This right here will be the reason why i am strongly considering a Mac Book pro for a new laptop when it is time to replace the thinkpad. I have a horrible gaming addiction and this would be an ideal solution to deal with that on a Mac. I wonder if this will work for Vista when that comes out.
