Aces!, another fun drive into work today.

In other news, i finally got around to updating the kernel on the laptop. I been running 2.4.x for awhile now and finally figured it was about time to move to 2.6. So i grabbed 2.6.1 from kernel.org and let that build over the night while i slept. Last time i tried to upgrade to 2.6 I did it via the rpm way…which i am never going to do again. Everything pretty much works now, i just need to figure out ALSA considering i never used it before. I just stuck with the OSS driver for the maestro3 card that’s in the laptop. I also went out and grabbed Xfce4 and installed that on the laptop as well. So far i am digging, i just need to customize it abit and then i’ll post a screenshot with it running on the laptop.

Looks like i am going to drop proftpd on drwily, I’m going to migrate to pureftpd. Proftpd refused to do what i need it to do, plus the documentation seems more complete for pureftpd. Not sure when i am going to migrate over yet. It all depends on when i get the time to do it.

I been looking at CSSzengarden lately getting some idea’s on how to redo this site. I been really wanting to customize the look of it for a long time now. It just seems the default Movabletype styles really suck.

Nick hooked me up with some music last night. I now have in my posession the new Hybrid CD “Morning Sci-Fi” and the new Junkie XL “A Broadcast From The Computer Hell Cabin” CD. So far i have been able to get through the Hybrid and man does it kick ass. As for Junkie XL, i got through maybe half of the first CD and i am also really impressed with this. He has alot of different artist’s making an appearence on the CD, some of them are Saffron from Republica, Sasha, Gary Neuman, Robert Smith from the Cure, plus a few more i am not familar with.

Well time to get some breakfast in me before i hit the gym

moving on

I’m going to move on and not worry about trying to encrypt passwords on the user table. So far i havent recieved any help or ideas on where to go with my problem. So i will have to find another method to sorta lock down that particular database from unauthorized users. I’ll have to start tweaking the pg_hba.conf file again and see if i can do it. Once i get that working, i’ll have to figure out a way to automate adding new users to the system. The current way of doing it is i have to actually log into the db and add the user manually with some sql. Maybe i’ll pump greenfly for some perl-fu help and write a small app in perl.

After i get that done and write up a how-to i need to figure something else to play around with. I was thinking of taking a look at PAM and see what it can do with it. Also was thinking of maybe trying to setup a VPN server with fedora, who knows we shall see what my schedule look like with school back in session.

Well time to check a few things here at work
