September 29, 2003 Yea it’s that time again ladies and gentlemen, where a do a huge ass post because I haven’t done anything in awhile. I figured why not, I’m sitting at work with nothing else to do.
Last week kind of sucked, I was on the verge of dying to this bastard head cold from hell. Man I was one miserable bitch last week, also it didn’t help that I was rushed to the hospital last Friday due to a bloody nose that would stop. Man I never thought I would see the day were I would go to the hospital for that. I ended up rupturing a blood vessel in my nose, which was the reason why it was leaking blood like an old leaky faucet. Because of this I spent most of my Friday afternoon sitting the emergency room while the doc shot liquid and cotton balls up my nose to stop the flow of blood. Once that was accomplished he brought out the burning stick of doom and stuck it up my nose to cauterize the troublesome blood vessel. Jesus I t had to be one of the most unpleasant things in my life. My nose was sore for hours after that; on the good side at least it stopped bleeding heh.
The weekend was much much better; I spent it with my hunny of course. The poor girl had 3 big tests during the week and I was afraid he brain was going to be mush. We basically hung out, did some shopping on Saturday. Hit the mall were she bought a ton of new cute clothes from Express and The Gap, plus she got me a new pair of Halloween boxers. They are pretty sweet; they have eyes all over them that glow in the dark. Sorry ladies now action shots, I promised Amanda I wouldn’t 
After the Mall we hit Borders were I picked up the newest issue of Linux Journal, The new Paul Oakenfold 2 disc set “Great Wall” and for the first time “Sys Admin” magazine. After that we Media Play across the street to pick up Armin Van Buuren’s new CD “76″.
Armin’s CD really kicks ass, I have already played it at least a few times over. It’s all mostly his own tracks that he has done over the years. If you like Armin I highly suggest picking it up, or even if you’re a fan of trance music in general. As for Oakenfold’s new mix, I am finally playing the first disc right now. So far its not too bad, I really need to listen to it proper at home and all the way through both discs for a proper review.
Time for some work updates..
I was messing around with Openview some more lately, been trying to figure out why the RPC daemon on 5 of the HPUX servers we run was dying. I thought I had it nailed it down to a NFS issue, but that was only on one of the five. Plus because of the error, it might not be affecting the RPC daemon at all. Scott is going to ask the one Unix engineer about it tomorrow and see what she says.
I didn’t get any cabling done for Pete today; I am going to really have to push on it towards the end of the week. I am about half way through converting the servers on the 10.x.x.x wire to the new cabling and patch panels. After that I need to move over all the 169.x.x.x, which isn’t as much as the other ones. I just need to wait on the info from Pete on those. After I get everything cut over I am basically done, but I am going to go the extra mile and clean out all the old cabling and straighten everything up so it’s nice and clean. I was talking to Rob about how we should lock everything down so the admin’s cant just plug shit in to the switch and do a half assed job running the cable. Just to keep everything clean and not screwed up.
Last week we had a meeting with the head of Production Services, he felt that our department and the internal help desk didnt have enough “synergy” and now that they are a man down we need to pitch in and help them more. What a crock of shit, its more like the one person that they have in their department is the biggest fucking moron known to man. She basically fucked allot of us over because she didn’t want to work late. Then she has the FUCKING BALLS to bitch to me that she doesn’t want to inconvience us when she goes on break and how she only takes small breaks here and there instead of a full lunch, etc. The sad thing is her boss wont do anything about it. Like she refused to work till 10pm, so her boss caved in and said ok no problem. WHAT THE FUCK, you don’t fucking give into your workers.
I’m not going to bitch too much about, it wouldn’t help anything except get me more pissed off about work then I already am. I am just going to keep biding my time and wait till I am done with school. Then I will try and find something else that’s much better.

September 16, 2003 I was outside this morning taking the dog out and i couldnt help but enjoy the weather we are having right now. I’d have to say fall would be my favorite season of the year. The air gets a little cooler, the leaves start turning orange/red, and you can buy a ton of apple cider at the store. Only downside to the fall season is that winter is going to show up soon.
Some other happenings..
The car is fixed, both struts and ball joints were replaecd this weekend by my uncle. He was kinda enough to take the car for a weekend and work on it. Only thing i had to pay for was parts and a front end alignment. When i get paid this weekend i am going to give him a little something for fixing the car.
I really started getting back into things at work. Scott one of the admins who has been working on Openview and knows it better then me is helping me out with it. What we are going to do is try and cut down on all the BS messages we are getting in the message browser. Once we get them cut down and only bringing up the ones that are important, we will start transitioning them to the ops_watch message group so that we start getting them. I have a test unix box and waiting for a test NT server to play around with. As i figure out more things with Openview, i’ll post little blurps here and there.
I know have 2 down machines sitting on my desk. The IBM hard drive that i have in my LAN box that goes with me to Eric’s shit the bed this past weekend. What i will do is swap it with the Western Digital in drwily and when i rebuild drwily go with a smaller drive. I might try and see if i can RMA the drive from IBM’s site.
Gnome 2.4 was released, i am going to have to try and get it on the laptop and check it out. A couple of guys in #linux did a really awesome review which got alot of praises from the community. You can find the article here..

I really wish i can work more with linux in the work place. ITs not fooling around with it and setting up servers at home, but i really would like to work with it in datacenter. Between doing real administration work, playing with hardware that i normally do not have access to. Implementing linux solutions etc. More and more i see companies are jumping on the linux bandwagon, but not ours. All we have is a couple of RH 7.3 machines that just sit there and do nothing, except for one which is a Java dev box for some stuff that Process Integration is doing. Maybe someday when i am done with school and i actually have an admin job, i’ll be able to do it.

September 8, 2003 Man i really hate mondays, i have to go back to work and i wont get to see my hunny till the end of the week. I think would i am going to start doing is every monday post a list of things i want to get done during the week. Then when the end of the week comes around go through and see what i listed got done. I already been some what productive today already. I went and got my blood work done again for more tests. God the labs around here really suck, what ever happen to getting your blood drawn at the doctor’s office instead of going to a lab. I got in at 7am this morning and the place was packed. After waiting for over an hour i finally got in to have a 5 minute procdure done (grrrr). I also drove down to ECC to pay my tuition payment for this month. Some of the other things i would like to get done at some point this week are..
-Get finances back on track again
-Start planning out my Openview work and then bug the shit out of Charlie till he can hook me up with the stuff i need.
-Work on learning python some more
-Work on a phtotgallery thing for the site using PHP.
-Wash car
So we will have to see out of all of these what i get done.
I got a new burner for the lan box that i take to erics with me. I picked up a 52x up at Office Depot for like 60 bucks. So now i can burn goodies off the box instead of having to transfer over the net work at home.
I managed to get an “advance copy” of the new KMFDM CD “WWIII”. All i have to say is this CD is pretty fucking good. I been totally rocking out to it for the past couple of days. I highly suggest that you pick this up when it hits stores, its well worth the money.
